Beaumont helps England to opening ODI win in Sri Lanka

Tammy Beaumont scored 41 as England won the first of a four-match ODI series in Sri Lanka.

The Kent opener hit seven fours as she shared 77 for the first wicket with Lauren Winfield as the tourists chased 169 to win in Colombo.

The hosts opted to bat first and several players got starts before being dismissed with two wickets apiece for Katherine Brunt and Heather Knight.

Dani Hazell and debutant Beth Langston took a wicket each as England restricted the scoring.

Skipper Knight (45*) and Nat Sciver (47*) saw England home with more than 20 overs to spare.

Next up, England must win one of the the three remaining matches of the series to qualify for the 2017 Women’s World Cup with fixtures on Saturday, Tuesday and next Thursday.
