Bell-Drummond hits career best 171* as Lions sweep series
Monday 25th July 2016
Daniel Bell-Drummond struck a one-day career-best of 171 not out as England Lions completed a clean sweep by beating Sri Lanka A at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
He shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 367 – just six short of the highest limited-overs partnership of all time – with Kent-born batsman Ben Duckett scoring 220 not out, a record innings for an England Lions or A team batsmen and the highest ever recorded in one-day cricket in Canterbury, beating Sam Billings' 175 scored on his home ground for England Lions on Sunday.
Bell-Drummond paced his innings well, accelerating his scoring in the later overs as the landmarks and records were achieved with the Northamptonshire left-hander at the other end.
The 22-year-old hit 15 fours and four sixes as both men attacked the bowling to push the score beyond 400.
The total of 425-1 was the highest ever recorded at the ground and the tourists could not sustain a chase with four wickets for Sussex seamer George Garton and two apiece for Lancashire paceman Saqib Mahmood and Hampshire spinner Liam Dawson.
Sam Billings took a catch behind the stumps.
