Cowdrey shares stand with Michael Clarke for Western Suburbs

Fabian Cowdrey and Michael Clarke shared a 45-run stand as the Kent all-rounder skippered the former Australia captain in Grade cricket.

The 23-year-old Canterbury-born Kent Cricket Academy graduate opened the batting as the 34-year-old Clarke returned to cricket with a win for Western Suburbs.

Cowdrey scored 42 from 57 balls with a fluent knock featuring seven boundaries while Clarke’s 95-ball 48 was a more patient effort.

Wests were eventually dismissed for 209 before dismissing opponents Randwick Petersham to 169 with Cowdrey bowling three overs at the cost of eight runs.

With the win secured, Cowdrey and Clarke opened the second innings, scoring 11 and 30 respectively before the close.

Cowdrey is now due to return to the UK to begin preparations for the 2016 season.
