Darren Stevens hits 68 in Second XI Championship match at Maidstone

Darren Stevens bounced back with the bat by posting 68 at Maidstone for the second XI.

The 39-year-old all-rounder rushed from the LV= Championship defeat at Canterbury for some valuable batting practice against Essex in the three-day Second XI Championship fixture at Mote Park.

Kent won the toss and batted first, amassing 400 for seven inspired by opener Sean Dickson who plundered 177 in more than four and a half hours at the crease.

The Johannesburg-born batsman has been in fine form for the second XI and was supported with contributions from a number of players who got good starts.

Adam Ball, Brendan Nash and Ben Harmison got starts as Kent reached 164 for three before Dickson and Stevens put on 161 for the fourth wicket.

Nick Selman reached a fluid 41 not out as Kent declared to leave Essex ten overs to negotiate before the close.

Teen openers Saf Imtiaz and Daniel Lawrence (who scored 161 at The Oval in the LV= Championship in April) saw it through, helping Essex reaching 25 without loss at stumps.
