Davies and Bernard star in England Under-19 warm-up

Hugh Bernard took a wicket on his England Under 19 debut as colleague Ryan Davies claimed six dismissals behind the stumps.

The Kent Cricket Academy scholar got success in his first spell as the tourists dismissed a Western Australia XI for 268 in reply to England's 322 for three on day one.

Davies, who signed his first professional contract with Kent last year, impressed with the gloves taking four catches and two stumpings.

England play Australia Under-19s in a four-day ‘Test’ at the WACA Ground from Monday.

Andy Hurry, Head of the England Development Programme, said: “Today again presented some excellent challenges for us with the ball and there were a number of outstanding individual performances.

“Ben Green, Callum Taylor and Jared Warner all gave us control of the game whilst Mason Crane and Matt Parkinson picked up vital wickets with the former taking 4-10 off his 6.2 overs.

“Both individually and collectively, we can reflect on some constructive learning that we can use to focus the remainder of our preparation leading into the Test match at the WACA.

“Our initial preparation which has been based at Murdoch University has been excellent, largely due to the high-quality facilities and the accommodating WACA staff.

“The players now have two days of recovery before we commence our final preparation for the Test.

“All the players within the squad are relishing the opportunity to play at a landmark Test venue and are excited by the prospect of taking on the Australians.”
