Davies and Qayyum shine in 2nd XI T20 win over Surrey at Maidstone

In a rehearsal for next Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast at Beckenham, Kent took on Surrey in two 20-over second XI games at Maidstone today.

Although the fixture was billed as a second-string fixture, several first-choice players turned out at Mote Park.

The hosts won the first match by nine wickets as Surrey were restricted to 114 for six with spinner Imran Qayyum picking up three wickets and one each for death-bowling duo Mitch Claydon and David Griffiths.

Both bowlers played a key role in the Spitfires’ win against Sussex Sharks on Friday and shone again, ably supported by left-armer Qayyum.

In reply, wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Davies blasted 64 not out from 39 balls and Adam Ball weighed in with 38 off 33 in an unbeaten stand of 105 to see the hosts home with 6.5 overs to spare.

In the second match, Qayyum bagged another three victims as Surrey posted 133-5 in 19 overs before rain and hail intervened to halt the Kent reply and the match was abandoned as a draw.
