Denly hits half-century to reach T20 playoffs

Kent batsman Joe Denly smashed 56 off 38 balls to help Sydney reach the New South Wales T20 semi-finals.

The 30-year-old hit two fours and three sixes at the top of the order as he shared two 50+ stands in a total of 209 for four.

His side qualified for the playoffs at the Sydney Cricket Ground next Sunday (18 December).

On Saturday, he took 1/19 in nine overs as Sydney defeated Manly-Warringah in the First Grade competition.

In the same tournament, Mitch Claydon took 2/52 in 13 overs as Bankstown beat Sutherland before conceding 26 runs in 4 overs in a T20 defeat to Parramatta on Sunday.

In Western Australia, Zak Crawley scored 27 after sharing an opening stand of 85 for Wembley Districts as they scored 187 for nine against Swan Valley.

On the opening weekend of the second edition of the Women’s Big Bash League, it was honours even for Kent opener Tammy Beaumont.

The 25-year-old Kent Cricket Academy graduate scored two in a low-scoring win against Melbourne Renegades on Saturday, dismissing the opponents for 102 to secure a 14-run win.

On Sunday, Beaumont smashed 20 off 23 balls and 31 from Edwards helped the Strikers reach 128 for six which the Renegades chased with three balls to spare.
