Edwards and Scorchers end Hobart’s unbeaten start to WBBL

Charlotte Edwards and Perth Scorchers ended Hobart Hurricanes’ five-match unbeaten start to the Women’s Big Bash League.

The Scorchers played the table-topping Hurricanes in a double-header on Saturday with Edwards scoring 8 and 6 as they shared the spoils with a win apiece.

Hobart won the first match by a run thanks to England vice-captain Heather Knight’s 74 despite international team-mate Katherine Brunt smashing 41 off 28 balls for Perth.

In the return match, Hobart scored just 108 for nine with Katie-Jane Hartshorn taking 4-23 and a run out by Charlotte Edwards.

The Scorchers chased the total with an over to spare led by New Zealand captain Susie Bates' 42 not out.

On Sunday, Sydney Sixers broke their duck with a five-wicket win. Kent all-rounder Laura Marsh did not play but overseas star Kara Sutherland did feature in the five-wicket win against the Scorchers. Edwards scored seven in Perth’s 107-8 which the Sixers chased with seven balls to spare.
