In the Queensland First Grade, Sam Northeast won the toss for Sunshine Coast and invited Gold Coast – Dolphins to bat.

The visitors made 53 for 3 in a weather-affected day with Ivan Thomas bowling an economical opening spell of nine overs including five maidens, costing just 12 runs.

Elsewhere, Adam Ball did not play as the Redlands Tigers match at South Brisbane was called off due to the state of the wicket.

Brendan Nashreturned to action after two months rest with a win for Northern Suburbs at second-placed Sandgate-Redcliffe

The former West Indies batsman came in at number six in the order after the Norths comfortably passed the hosts’ total of 100.

Nash was dismissed for nought off two balls batting at six and skipper James Hopes soon declared on 153/8 after losing five wickets for ten runs.

The match resumes next Saturday with Sandgate on seven without loss and their only hope of quickly posting a total and dismissing Norths.
