Kent second XI win one of two T20 matches v Essex at Maidstone

Kent Second XI won one and lost one of two T20 games at Mote Park against Essex on Friday afternoon.

In the first match, skipper Brendan Nash (pictured above) top-scored with 54 not out off 44 balls after he won the toss and Kent posted 135 for eight.

A brace of wickets for Imran Qayyum, Dan Smith and academy scholar Marcus O’Riordan restricted Essex.

Dan Lawrence scored 39 and Jack Winslade’s 43 were the main contributions as Essex edged home by a wicket with five balls to spare.

Zak Crawley (33), Sean Dickson (30) and Charlie Hartley (24 not out) propelled Kent to 146-7 in the second match.

In reply, Essex lost regular wickets with two in Johannes Bothma’s opening over before a brace of wickets by academy scholar Marcus O’Riordan and a run out by skipper Brendan Nash.

Essex’s main resistance came from Jaik Mickleburgh (48) and cameos from Callum Taylor (21) and Aron Nijjar (24).
