Kent Spitfires seek double over Somerset

The Kent Spitfires will be determined to prove that their first round win over Somerset was no fluke as they contest with the west country County, Friday night at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence. Their second encounter in the NatWest T20 Blast will be vital to Somerset’s hopes of making the Quarter-finals but Head Coach Jimmy Adams is very clear on his team’s plans, ‘we aim to win.’

‘The season end has been disappointing although the lads put in a top performance against the Sussex Sharks last Friday,’ stated Adams, ‘we are going out to win and show the supporters in Canterbury how good our team can be.’

Adams has stuck with the same 13 he has named for the last two NatWest T20 Blast fixtures.

In the opening NatWest T20 Blast fixture between the two Counties, in Taunton, 23 May, Kent were comfortable winners, by 42 run. Somerset were set a target of 165 to win, Kent having complied there runs in a 13 over, rain interrupted, innings. Leading contributors to the Spitfires 164 for 6 were Daniel Bell-Drummond, 59 from 30 balls, Darren Stevens, 47 off 20 and Rob Key 46 off 22. In reply Somerset could only manage 122 for 5 from their allocated overs. Darren Stevens leading the bowling attached taking 2 wickets in his 3 overs for only 14 runs. Doug Bollinger, 3 for 36 off three overs, and David Griffiths, 3 overs for 23 runs, where the other notable bowling performers.

The match begins 7.00pm Friday 18 July, at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury.
