Kent stalwart Bob Deveson dies

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of former Kent steward Robert ‘Bob’ Deveson who has died.

Bob worked for the club in the Harris Room for over 15 years until his ‘full’ retirement several years ago.

Bob was born in 1928 and spent his whole life in Eastry. He left school at 14 and joined his father’s bakery and took the business over in the mid-1960s and ran it until his retirement in the 1990s.

Honorary Curator David Robertson said: “Bob was more than just a popular Steward in the Harris Room. He went about his duties in a quiet, discreet and dignified manner – sometimes not an easy task especially towards the end of a day’s play!

“Always smartly dressed, he had a welcoming smile for everyone, he knew many of the Harris Room visitors by name and went out of his way to make sure that everyone had an enjoyable day.

“He was a great lover of Kent cricket and following his retirement was warmly welcomed in the Harris Room and around the ground.”

A Memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church in Eastry on Monday 6th March at 2.45pm, all are welcome to attend.
