Laura Marsh presses Test claims with all-round display for Academy

Kent’s Laura Marsh hit 44 to press her claims for a place in the England Test squad to play Australia in the Kia Women’s Test at Canterbury later this month.

County colleague Tammy Beaumont skippered the side and scored 18 at the top of the order with fellow Kent Cricket Academy graduate Tash Farrant finishing on 5 not out for England Academy against Australia in a two-day warm-up match at Loughborough.

Beaumont won the toss at the Haslegrave Ground and chose to bat before becoming the first wicket to fall as the Australian attack warmed up for the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence showpiece.

Ten bowlers were used before the hosts declared on 279 for nine. In reply, left-armer Farrant opening the bowling taking 0-52 off 17 overs and a catch off the bowling of opening partner Beth Langston.

Laura Marsh showed typical control with 1/46 off 14 overs, removing Jess Cameron caught and bowled as Australia posted 232 for four.
