Maiden Pape 50 helps young Kent side beat Surrey Women at Kia Oval

A maiden senior 50 for Charlotte Pape helped a young Kent side maintained the county champions’ unbeaten record in a low-scoring at the Kia Oval.

Languishing on 49-6 chasing 141 to win, the 20-year-old bowler, promoted to number three in the absence of five England internationals scored 59* in a unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 92 with debutant Phoebe Franklin (26 not out).

As the senior stars prepare to defend the Ashes, Kent called up 14-year-old Molly Davis for her debut alongside teenagers Lottie Bryan (19), Phoebe Franklin (17), Emily Thompson (17) in a side with an average age under 21.

A young attack restricted the hosts to 140 with 17-year-old Megan Belt the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-24 off 10 overs and ex-England all-rounder Lynsey Askew taking 2-29 on her return.

Pape and Australian all-rounder Kara Sutherland took a wicket each before two run-outs from Alice Davidson-Richards helped dismiss Surrey with 4.2 overs to spare.
