Pharon Indoor Cricket League – Year’s Summary

Sunday 30th March 2014

With youth and fitness on their side, Canterbury University students have made a big impression upon indoor cricket at the Kent Cricket Ames Levett Indoor School.

Since Joining the Pharon League their teams have progressed so swiftly through the divisions that, when the next winter’s programmed opens in October, of the eighth sides in Division 1 two will be from Kent University (UKC) and one from Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU).

CCCU 1st and Gravesend 1st are relegated but CCCU seconds won Division 2. They are promoted along with runners-up UKC 2nd, who join their firsts in the top division. They were equal second with Macknade, but had the better run rate.

Remaining in the First Division are Street End 1st, champions for the first time, Canterbury 1st and 2nd, Whitstable and Gravesend 2nd.

The league was again supported by Pharon; the independent financial advisers based at Harbledown, and reached an exciting climax on the last evening. Four clubs were fighting to avoid going down to Division 3 with Sturry, who won only two games out of 14.

Chestfield were the only losers of the four and are relegated, just two points worse off than east Kent Police, Margate 1st and Harbledown.

The Division 3 title went to Herne Bay by one point from Bossingham.

The junior competitions were dominated by Broadstairs, who scored a remarkable treble, winning the under 13s’ League and Cup and under 15s’ Cup. They were runners-up to Nonington in the under 15s’ League.
