Qayyum takes three wickets in Hampshire friendly

Kent got some more match practice in a rain-reduced two-day friendly against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

Left-arm spinner Imran Qayyum took 3-60 in 13.3 overs with former Kent opener Michael Carberry scoring an unbeaten 103 before retiring as the hosts scored 254 for six.

Kent started strongly as wicketkeeper Adam Rouse ran out Tom Alsop without scoring off the sixth ball of the innings.

Mitch Claydon (1/39 off 12 overs) was the next to strike as he found Will Smith's edge and Joe Denly's hands at slip.

His new-ball partner bowled with good control, conceding 24 runs in 11 overs as the spinners removed the middle-order resistance.

Qayyum bowled Adam Wheater for a patient 13 before Adam Riley (1/37 off 10 overs) dismissed Lewis McManus for 40, shortly after Carberry's retirement.

Former Kent all-rounder Ryan McLaren and Chris Wood followed as Qayyum struck twice: bowling McLaren before Wood edged to Riley at slip.

In reply, Sean Dickson (38), Adam Ball (36), Sam Northeast (32) and Alex Blake (25) got good starts as the rain interrupted play for a second consecutive day.
