Rob Key: Northeast is doing a great job as skipper

Sunday 24th May 2015

Kent’s Rob Key has confirmed that Sam Northeast will continue as Kent's on-field captain as he is doing an excellent job.

The club captain for 2015 said following his 89 against Surrey: “I was really looking forward to today and felt refreshed after my short time away from the first team.

"I had a lot less going on in my head and I enjoyed just getting back to being a batsman. I loved today, although as a team we missed a huge opportunity to go on and get a massive total because Sam and I were cruising along out there when we got to 182 for two.

“Sam’s doing a great job as captain, and he’s an excellent captain, and if he wants to continue doing it then that’s great with me.

"We’ll see what happens, but I still feel I have a lot to give as a batsman. I’m very proud of where Kent are as a team and as a club at the moment, but I have done the captaincy a long time and it has affected my batting before.”
