Monday 7th July 2014

Roseacre Junior School, representing the Maidstone district, reigned victorious in every game and claimed the title of the 2014 Girls Primary Schools’ Kwik Cricket Champions for the whole of Kent. Kent Cricket District Development Officers led 120 girls from 11 districts in the brilliant sunshine as they battled for the title at the Polo Farm Sports Ground on Monday by negotiating five matches before the final decider.

The county final is part of the ECB’s National Kwik Cricket tournament, organised by Kent Cricket and supported brilliantly by Kent Sport, with the aim of creating an exciting tournament that highlights the talent of young girls in the region; which will then encourage and inspire the players to progress their skills and involvement in the game as they flourish.

Natasha Newman, Kent Cricket Board Women and Girls Cricket Development Officer said, ‘Today we’ve seen representation from 11 different districts resulting in 120 girls playing cricket over the course of the day. The standard of the girls was absolutely outstanding, which evidences the women and girls’ game in Kent is ever increasing.’

During the final presentations, each team was awarded with both a Kent Sport and Kwik Cricket medals and the umpires were given a token gift to thank them for their efforts and contributions throughout the day.
