Kwik Cricket Tournament

Years 5 & 6 Mixed County Final

Polo Farm Sports Ground, Canterbury

Tuesday 8th July 2014

The adverse weather conditions did not halt Roseacre Junior School – representing the Maidstone district – made history as they reigned victorious during the Kwik Cricket Tournament and claiming the title of the 2014 Mixed Kwik Cricket Champions for the whole of Kent. Roseacre girls had won the title the day before during the Girls Only Kwik Cricket Tournament, meaning two consecutive wins for the primary school. Kent Cricket District Development Officers led around 160 students from 16 districts as they battled for the title at the Polo Farm Sports Ground on Tuesday by negotiating six matches and, although threats of lightening cut the tournament short, all schools played excellently all whilst displaying the concept of fair play.

The county final is part of the ECB’s National Kwik Cricket tournament, organised by Kent Cricket and supported brilliantly by Kent Sport, with the aim of creating an exciting tournament that highlights the talent of young players in the region; which will then encourage and inspire them to progress their skills and involvement in the game as they flourish.

Adam Hodder, Kent Cricket Board Alternative Participation Lead Officer, said, ‘It was amazing to see the hard work of schools and the cricket which is delivered in schools through the KCB Schools Cricket Programme, resulting in some awesome games being played in the County Kwik Cricket Final.’

During the final presentations, each team was awarded with both a Kent Sport and Kwik Cricket medal whilst the umpires were given a token gift to thank them for their efforts and contributions throughout the day.

Roseacre was presented with the Kent Kwik Cricket Cup andwill now go on to represent Kent in the ECB National London and East Finals in Cambridge.
