Sam Northeast ton settles Kent showdown in Queensland

A century from Sam Northeast proved the difference as he skippered Sunshine Coast to victory over Adam Ball’s Redlands Tigers.

The Kent vice-captain scored 144 against an attack featuring his colleague in the Queensland Premier Grade.

Chasing 362 to win, the 25-year-old amassed 225 for the third wicket with opener Nick Selman (118 not out). Ivan Thomas did not bat.

The Ashford-born batsman hit 22 fours and a six in a three-hour innings before being caught behind by wicketkeeper James Peirson off the bowling of Sandwich Town’s Marnus Labuschagne.

Adam Ball’s 12 overs went for 65 runs in the Tigers’ first defeat of the season.

In New South Wales, Mitch Claydon’s Newcastle City side lost by an innings and 20 runs.

The Kent seamer did not bowl and top-scored with 44 in the second innings total of 90 all out.
