Men’s First Team

Kent Cricket Academy graduate Sam Weller will make the step up to the first team squad this summer but the 20-year-old from Chislehurst will have a busy start to the season as skipper of Oxford MCCU.

The Oxford Brookes University student will lead the team against four first-class counties in March and April.

Kent's new number 19 dismissed Leicestershire batsman Matthew Boyce in a friendly on Tuesday and returned figures of11-4-42-1.

He took the prized wicket of England batsman Jonathan Trott in April 2014 against Warwickshire at The Parks before impressing for Kent's second XI and earning a professional contract.

Speaking at the 2015 Kent Cricket poster shoot, Weller said: "I'm very happy to be appointed captain with first-class matches starting in April.

"Being part of the Kent first team setup is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to the new season."

The 6ft 2in pace prospect recently attended the Professional Cricketers Association's Rookie Camp and said: "The Camp was very valuable and provided us with a lot of information regarding being a professional cricketer as well as how the PCA can help us."

Meet the Kent Cricket squad at the annual Open Day at The Spitfire Ground from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Saturday, May 3.
