Wednesday 10th August 2016

Canterbury Christ Church University is looking for next year’s sporting stars to apply to become University Sports Scholars.

Each year, the University offers prospective and current students with a significant sporting talent, the opportunity to receive Elite and Performance Sport Scholarships of up to £1,500. The scholarships reflect the University’s commitment to the development of academic and sporting excellence among students.

Current Christ Church Sports Scholars include James Bosio, Lizzie Nicholl and Phil Anthony. James, who is studying a PGCE in Citizenship, recently played in the Euro 2016 Qualifiers representing Gibraltar against Germany.

Lizzie is studying for a Sports and Exercise Sciences degree and represents Kent and London and South East England for Rugby Union. And, Phil, who is completing a PhD in Sport and Exercise Science, is an Ultra-Marathon runner who came 2nd in the 50km world championships 2014 and is the current World Record holder for 100km on a treadmill.

As well as the financial award, Sports Scholars receive full use of the University fitness centre for training and their formal development.
