Kent spinner James Tredwell took two wickets as England continued their fine form in preparation for the tri-series against Australia and India.

The Ashford-born bowler struck in successive overs to dismiss Jake Doran and Matthew Condon as a Prime Minister’s XI lost by 60 runs in Canberra.

The 32-year-old, who extended his Kent contract in November 2014, struck first after Doran drove to captain Eoin Morgan at cover before bowling Condon.

He finished on two for 62 from eight overs asGlenn Maxwell’s 136 off 91 balls threatened to help the PM chase a daunting target of 392 before Stuart Broad (4-40) removed him and returned to clean up the tail.

England opener Ian Bell’s 187 off 145 balls proved the foundation for England’s innings with contributions from partner Moeen Ali and James Taylor, both out for 71.
