Player Biography
Sam Northeast was appointed club captain in September 2015, succeeding Rob Key who spent nine years in two spells in the role.
In 2010, the former England under-19 star burst on the scene to top Kent’s first-class batting averages. His 969 runs came at a healthy average of 57 and included three centuries.
He was first named captain when Kent faced the touring South Africans in 2012 and led from the front, scoring 35 and 54 not out against one of the world’s most fearsome bowling attacks.
After a prolific 2012, Sam scored a maiden List A century in the Spitfires record run-chase against Sussex Sharks in 2013.
The innovative batsman has also developed into a stylish limited-overs player. His T20 and List A averages are improving all the time.
He hit a T20 career-best 114 in a record-breaking win, toppling Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 151 in Somerset’s 224-7 at Taunton in May 2015.
The 25-year-old passed 8,500 first-class career runs in 2017 after passing 1,000 first class runs for the third successive season.
Northeast topped the run-scoring charts in all formats in 2015 and 2016 and earned a call-up to a South XI in March 2016 to play the North in a 50-over series in Abu Dhabi where he scored a century in a 3-0 series win.
