SIMON Cook (pictured) and Ryan McLaren took three wickets each as Kent enjoyed the better of the opening day’s play in Cardiff. The in-form Cook returned figures of 3-35 as Glamorgan closed on 295-8 at the Swalec Stadium.

Opener Gareth Rees top-scored for the Welsh county, hitting a patient 80. He shared stands of 51 with South African Herschelle Gibbs (36), 72 with Michael Powell (30) and 69 with skipper Jamie Dalrymple (35).

Kent will hope to quickly wrap up the Glamorgan innings when play resumes on day two and then get to work with the bat themselves.
